The Austrian Handall is alive - and thriving. Right in the middle, Matthias Kornes and ballgewinn.de. For a week, from July 8th to 12th, players from Vorarlberg completed a training camp in Lauterach on Lake Constance. Participants were players from the Vorarlberg selection area and players from the younger age-group who want to be part of the selection squad of the Vorarlberg Handball Association (VHV).
The cooperation between ballgewinn.de and the VHV has been working for several years. In 2024, the residents of Lake Constance also showed their abilities, which are quite impressive. "Especially the youngest age-group - the 2012s - were really good," said Matthias Kornes after the Austrian training week.
Handball in the Alpine republic is also known in Germany, not least after the strong performance of the men's national team at the 2024 European Championship. The supposed handball dwarf does a lot of things well. The youth sector is also surprisingly present in Voralberg: There are fewer than a dozen clubs that do youth work in the VHV - but good players still come out again and again.
“The focus of the work was on individual play, especially positioning in an offensive or defensive position relative to the attacker,” said Kornes, “we also invested a lot in the basic cooperation play in breadth and depth.” The next training camp has already been fixed - ballgewinn.de will travel to Austria again in 2025!
